What is the NSF?

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency established in 1950 to promote the progress of science, advance national health, prosperity, and welfare, and secure national defense. NSF supports fundamental research and education in all non-medical fields of science and engineering, playing a crucial role in fostering innovation and discovery across the United States.

Why NSF Matters

NSF’s mission is to ensure that the United States remains at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation. By funding research and educational initiatives, NSF helps to cultivate the next generation of scientists, engineers, and educators. This support is vital for maintaining the country’s competitive edge in a rapidly evolving global landscape.

I have served on NSF review boards and received prestigious awards and funding from NSF throughout my scientific career. They are a significant driving force for science in the United States of America, and it would be an incredible achievement for any student to be honored for their accomplishments by NSF!
