The STEAMwhiz Mission

The STEAMwhiz Initiative is based out of Albany, NY USA. Our mission is to help develop the next generation of analytical and critical thinkers with the problem-solving skills they will need to be successful in the exciting future that lies ahead.

We are living in a post-industrial society, yet our education system is rooted in the industrial revolution. The information age provides access to data and knowledge within seconds of a thought. Furthermore, the ability to process this information using Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing the way humanity contributes to society. We are just beginning to see the impact on jobs such as cashiers, assembly line manufacturing, and soon, the delivery of goods via autonomous vehicles. As our society evolves, so too will our youth need to evolve.

The goal of the STEAMwhiz Initiative is to modernize curriculum by using 21st-century tech and education methodologies, to focus on developing analytical and critical thinking in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (STEAM). While we won’t be able to lift heavy objects, perform arithmetic, recall events, or sift through large amounts of information for basic patterns as well a robot/AI,

– the skills our children will need for the future will be grounded in the ability to break down complex information into essential components (i.e. Anaytitical thinking) and interpret information to make logical and actionable decisions (i.e Critical thinking).

Access to vast amounts of information, robotics, AI will offer a new paradigm for intuition, creativity, and ingenuity to blossom in the unique way that defines humanity. Our mission is to create the neural pathways of innovation and creative problem solving via the STEAMwhiz curriculum and teaching methodology in our students. We want to prepare them for this bold new future by creating a safe space for them to make mistakes, ask questions, and develop a growth mindset.

Fantastic place!!!! We found this program in the fall after trying to find a Steam program that would meet the needs of our son’s interest in Steam topics. This place has exceeded our expectations and we are so glad we got our son involved. He absolutely loves this program. He gets to connect with other kids as well as learn about topics that he is interested in. Steam lab day is his favorite day of the week. Everything that has been made and learned in this program is treasured by my son. He spends most nights looking over his materials from the program as he gets ready for bed. He loves Miss Allie! My son just took his first class at the absolutely incredible STEAMwhiz lab! Seriously Mrs. Allie and Dr. J are amazing! He had a blast and learned so much! I got to attend the class with him and learn along side him to support his love of computer design and science. Today we got to use kid friend computer design programs, see the laser cutter in action, play with circuits while we waited for the printer, and learn/ use sublimation to transfer his design to a piece of white board that was cut on the laser cutter. Can not wait to go back! Just signed Lucas up for 3 weeks of their summer camp!  -

We are so blessed to have this amazing opportunity for our kids in the Capital District! Allie and Dr. J truly understand how to engage our little scientists and guide them to think critically. So far my kids have had access to microscopes, fun electrical components, a 3D printer, and much more! Each session exposes them to science topics that are normally not introduced until the high school level, and it's all done in a fun, engaging, and hands-on way. We were fortunate enough to have our son participate in a session at STEAMWizz thanks to scholarships from our extended family. Our son loved every session and enjoyed the supportive atmosphere. He felt safe taking intellectual risks, trying and testing his ideas, and collaborating with Dr. J and Ms. Ali. Speaking of the amazing teaching team at STEAMWizz, they are master teachers, creative instructors, and compassionate individuals who make advanced concepts accessible to all. I am absolutely blown away by the unique approach of the STEAMwhiz team. Their teaching style keeps all of the kids engaged and excited about what they are learning. My son is enrolled in the first session of classes and has already been exposed to various hands-on equipment that he would otherwise not have access to. STEAMwhiz is awesome!! Our son has been enrolled in their labs since they opened in 2020 and he has learned a ton along the way. He’s in elementary school now, but the stuff he’s learning at STEAMwhiz is WAY above his grade level. He really enjoys learning to code, designing projects using CAD software, and finally building them with his hands. Seeing him take a project from conception to reality is really satisfying as a parent. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s learning the scientific and engineering principles behind the projects either!  -

Allie

Educator Extraordinaire

Allie is our education maestro that is ready to make thinkers and doers out of us all! She is also the quality-control, dot-the-i’s and cross-the- t’s, “let’s do it right” specialist. After graduating with a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Florida, Allie went on to teach in the public school setting for 10 years. Boundaries were pushed, professional development workshops were attended and created, and STEM case studies were executed to meet the ever-evolving specialization needs in STEM instruction. But she didn’t stop there…Allie continued to inspire next-gen “STEMist” as a science educator, teacher trainer, and facilitator at the US Department of Energy’s Brookhaven National Laboratory. There, she developed various STEM-based curricula used by the national laboratories Science Learning Center. Allie, the “Mom-o-saur,” continues to refine and develop her teaching methodologies to create empowered analytical and critical thinkers of her 2 young children, who have been homeschooled their entire lives. The boundaries continue to be pushed, as Allie the Educator (she wears many hats), is ready to bring her mastery and passion to inspire not just the next-gen “STEMist” or her own children, but all “S-T-E-A-Mist” alike, through the STEAMwhiz Initiative.

Dr J

Mad Scientist

Scientist, Physicist, Engineer, Technologist, Computerist (is that even a word?!), Tinker, Maker, Doer, Shaker…are just a few words to describe the other half of STEAMwhiz, Dr. JP. If you are ever stranded on an island, this is the person you want to be stranded with, not only will he rescue you both off the island, but during the process, he will teach you the “how,” so if you ever find yourself stranded again (yes, I know how very unlikely this whole scenario is, especially getting stranded on a remote island twice, but let’s see this analogy through), you will become the rescuer and teacher the next time. That is the heart of Dr. JP’s philosophy of learning. But is he really a doctor? Yes, Dr J has a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a Ph.D in Engineering Science/Electrical Engineering from the University of South Florida. Even throughout his highly-esteemed scientific career pursuits (and yes there are alot…think, Department of Energy, National Institute of Standards and Technology), he continuously gave his time and talents to educate and inspire our youth from elementary to graduate students and teachers alike in the STEM fields. Through his efforts of scientific mentorship, Dr. JP discovered his passion was not only for the sciences’ but also for inspiring others to become the scientist, physicist, engineer, technologist, computerist (yep, that’s officially a word now), tinkerist, makerist, doerist, and/or shakerist that are in us all!

We’re thrilled to announce that Spring Semester 2024 will mark the end of an era in our original Lab location at Leda Ln. While it has served us well, we’re excited to expand our horizons at Charles Park and provide even more amazing opportunities for our students! So get ready for bigger and better things to come as we bid farewell to our beloved space and prepare for an exciting new chapter ahead!
